What is the AWARD?
Each year in November, the Australian Institute of CPD Standards' International Anatomy Award, sponsored by Miga, offers one outstanding medical student the chance to embark on a fully funded, three-week preclinical anatomy program hosted by the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
As an award winner, you'll get:
- Access to world-class anatomy teaching from internationally recognised educators
- Hands-on experience applying your own anatomy knowledge through participation in cadaveric dissection and specialist-led classes
- Possible opportunities to engage in peer-to-peer teaching with Cambridge anatomy students
- Opportunities to develop your skills in leadership, academic curiosity, and lifelong learning
- A tour of both the Hunterian Museum and the Anatomy and Pathology Museum (APM) at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, experiencing their amazing collection of 18th Century anatomical preparations, noting that the APM is not open to the public
- A taste of authentic Cambridge student life, with a full itinerary of extracurricular activities and networking events, while being accommodated at Jesus College, Cambridge, one of the University’s most prestigious colleges. Students will live and learn amongst current students and fellows in a historic setting established in 1496

Visit the Royal College of Surgeons of England in the heart of London where you can tour the Hunterian Museum and trace the history of surgery from ancient times to the present. Then immerse yourself in the Anatomy and Pathology Museum (APM) with over 1,500 specimens on display.

Am i eligible?
- The International Anatomy Award is open to medical students insured with Miga's free student cover who:
- ✔️ Are currently enrolled in a recognised Australian Medical Council accredited primary medical program (5th year undergraduate or 2nd year postgraduate*)
- ✔️ Demonstrate academic excellence and a clear interest in anatomy or academic medicine that aligns with future career aspirations
- ✔️ Embody a high standard of professional conduct with no record of academic or disciplinary misconduct
- ✔️ Are available for the full program duration ~11th Nov– 5th December 2026 (TBC)
- ✔️ Holds a valid passport and meets the United Kingdom's travel and VISA requirements
- ✔️ Is an Australian citizen or permanent resident
*Students enrolled in recognised 6-year programs may apply either during their 5th year OR 6th year but not both.
how to apply
1. Prepare a 30 second video pitch
You should explain the impact this award will have on your learning, as well as what you hope to contribute to the program. Your video pitch should address:
- Why you're interested in this opportunity
- How it aligns with your future career goals
- What you hope to contribute to the program, and what you aim to gain from the experience
2. source required supporting documentation
This required documentation includes your academic transcript, and a maximum 400 word academic or clinical referee statement.
We want to understand more about you from a personal and professional perspective. Utilise this section to showcase your background and include your interests outside of medicine.
3. Prepare a leadership and engagement statement (optional)
A 200-word leadership and engagement statement that provides evidence of excellence, initiative, leadership, or service in an academic, clinical, or other setting.
4. Complete the online application form
- Complete the online application form and upload all required documentation between 1st May and 31st July, 5pm (AEST) 2026.

Who should i contact about my application, eligibility, or any general questions about the program?

where will i fly from?
You will fly from your nearest Australian capital city to London, United Kingdom - return!
what will the accommodation be like?
Accommodation in London will be a single room hotel, central to the city or equivalent. Cambridge accommodation is at the prestigious Jesus College, Cambridge.
Will i travel by myself?
Yes, you will travel independently and are responsible for yourself. A representative from Australian Institute of CPD Standards will meet you in London and attend the Royal College of Surgeons of England and escort you on to Cambridge for introductions before departing.
Do i need a passport?
Yes! You will need to hold valid passport and meet the United Kingdom's travel VISA requirements.

do i get a meal allowance?
Yes! Throughout the program you will receive a generous meal allowance for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to accommodate student socialising!
Must i attend the entire program?
Yes! You will need to attend the entire three-week program, but if you choose to stay longer for further travel, there is flexibility at your own cost.
Will i be covered for travel insurance?
Yes! AIcpdS will provide you with travel insurance and issue a copy of your insurance prior to departure.
What will my accommodation be like?
You will be granted a single-study bedroom at The College of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St John the Evangelist and the Glorious Virgin St Radegund, commonly known as 'Jesus College' within the University of Cambridge.
Most single-study bedrooms include: • A kitchen for in-room cooking and dining• Laundry facilities• Shared bathroom facilities or ensuite rooms• Wi-Fi coverage

what is the best way to get around cambridge?
Bike hire is included, and you will have access to a bike throughout your stay to explore Cambridge. There are also plenty of other transport options you can access during your stay, but a bicycle is by far the most reliable and popular way to navigate around campus.
